New class of Future Creators Cadets begins on January 16th
On Monday, 16th of January 2017, 15 young people, from a range of schools in Dublin 8, will attend their first Future Creators Cadets class.
The Future Creators Cadets course is similar to the existing Future Creators programme, but targets younger participants aged 10-12 years old. The programme is shaped to their abilities, interests and needs. Classes take place once a week for ten weeks and are two hours in duration. The aim of the course is to explore creativity through technology, using art materials and MaKey MaKey. Participants will also develop an understanding of technology, using design ideas and conductive materials in order to create a series of interactive pieces.
The new group will start with icebreakers and get an introduction to Makey Makey. Their first task will be to make a game controller. Over the course of the ten weeks, they will be introduced to Soundplant, which turns your keyboard into an instrument. They will then be shown how to use Audacity an audio editing and recording software, and Scratch a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Overview of the topics covered:
- Introductions to MaKey MaKey
- Making a game controller
- Introduction to Soundplant

The course will conclude with a ‘show and tell’ event where the young participants will gather at The Digital Hub’s Learning Studio, with their parents, siblings and tutors to showcase the digital work they created during the course.
