In the spring of 2021, the National College of Art and Design, Dublin (NCAD) and The Digital Hub announced a new partnership with an inaugural In Public webinar series to focus on the transformative nature of emerging technologies, attending to artistic practice, academic research, and industry.
The Digital Hub’s former artist-in-residence and NCAD Alumna, Elaine Hoey, along with NCAD lecturer, Dr. Rachel O’Dwyer, convened this programme, which was held from Thursday, 18th March to Thursday, 10th June 2021.
This programme of talks brought together artists, designers, thinkers and innovators to examine the areas of artificial intelligence, digital ethics, digital infrastructures and environments and how these powerful emerging technologies intersect with each other and are transforming our futures.
The partnership between NCAD and The Digital Hub builds on stakeholder participation at the intersection of artistic practice, technology and society. The programme was designed to bring together audiences from key industry figures, academics and thinkers, students and alumni, the arts sector and the wider public.
Fiach Mac Conghail, CEO of The Digital Hub, said
“We are pleased to be collaborating with our Thomas Street neighbours NCAD, in delivering on this programme of talks. Artificial Intelligence creates both opportunities and challenges for artists, entrepreneurs and communities. It is vital that we should broaden this discussion and understand all its possibilities.”
