An evening of film, food and markets in store for Culture Night 2019 at The Digital Hub

The Digital Hub, Ireland’s largest cluster of digital media, technology and internet businesses, has partnered with Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival and The Dublin Flea Market to celebrate Culture Night 2019. The public are invited for an open evening of film, food and markets on Friday evening, 20th September.

The outdoor event, which will run from 6pm to 10pm, will showcase the best of Irish short films and offer flea market bargains under St. Patrick’s Tower, at The Digital Hub campus on Thomas Street, Dublin 8. The location marks one of the most historic, vibrant and creative communities in the country.

 

Commenting on Culture Night 2019 at The Digital Hub, Fiach Mac Conghail, its Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are really thrilled to be supporting Culture Night for the third year running and to be partnering and building on our exciting collaborations that we now have in place with both Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival and The Dublin Flea Market. The programme of Irish short films, Irish design and craft stalls and artisan food at the flea market is a real celebration of culture, creativity and community coming to life in The Digital Hub and is set to provide a great night for all who attend.”

Bringing its outdoor cinema to Dublin 8, Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will screen a programme of short films from their Audience Award winning shorts over the last five years. Also included in the programme is ‘No Place Like Home’, a short documentary that puts the focus on homelessness in Ireland. The documentary was made by local young people, aged between 14 and 16 years of age, who participated in the pilot out-of-school, Screen8 filmmaking programme from September 2018 to February 2019. This unique programme has been developed and funded by The Digital Hub and Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, whose office is also located at The Digital Hub.

Gráinne Humphreys, Festival Director of the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with The Digital Hub for a third year for Culture Night, and even more excited to have The Dublin Flea Market joining us. These short films won over audiences when we screened them during the film festival over the last five years and we’ve no doubt the Culture Night audience will love them too.”

One of Dublin’s most loved markets, The Dublin Flea Market, will also host a special ‘Night Market’ at The Digital Hub, with an eclectic mix of stalls with everything from vintage clothes to handmade crafts and delicious food from market vendors.

Sharon Greene, co-founder and organiser of The Dublin Flea Market, said: “The Dublin Flea Market is delighted to be hosting its first ever night market as part of Culture Night 2019 and thrilled to be collaborating with The Digital Hub and Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival. The night market will comprise 35 stalls of the best mix of vintage, retro and antique, clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac as well as gorgeous Irish design and craft stalls. There will be a number of delicious artisan food stalls including The Village Pizza, Feashty, Grálinn and Camerino Bakery, all serving a feast of delicious artisan dinners and desserts so visitors should definitely come hungry.

As well as our first night market, it will also be our last Flea Market of the year (as no winter venue has been identified), so it is a very special night for us.  We hope everyone comes out to celebrate this great community cultural event with us.”

Members of the public, particularly those working and living in the Liberties area of Dublin 8 are invited to attend this free event on Culture Night, Friday, 20th September.
