20-02-12 The Future Creators build Apps |
The Future Creators project aims to encourage students to pursue a career in the digital media or technology industry.
The group of teenagers participating on the project are well into their second term of weekly classes held at The Digital Hub. The classes which commenced last September are currently focusing on App Development.
Feedback from the tutors is that the students have already got to grips with the fundamentals of programming as they have been working through the Code Academy programme, which some students completed after only two weeks. The students have also been joined by an App Developer who has introduced the class to Xcode for the Mac - an iPhone/iPad app development platform.
Some students have made great progress and are now working on producing a Soundboard App that outputs audio content they have already created on Audacity (a software programme which was covered during the first term of classes) and uses graphics that the students are creating themselves.
The coming weeks will see some students specialise in App Development and really drill down into the code, while other students will create some film content.
Run in conjunction with the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) the Future Creators gives young people an opportunity to develop digital media skills while exploring their creative potential. The collaborative nature of the project also offers students a chance to develop key career and life skills, such as problem-solving techniques, communication skills, and how to work as part of a team.
